The second Twenty20 International (T20I) SL vs IND will be played on Thursday (January 5) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
The opening game went down to the wire, with India defeating Sri Lanka by two runs. The Indian batsmen attempted to play aggressive cricket, but wickets continued to fall. India had lost five wickets and scored only 101 runs before the conclusion of the 15th over. Deepak Hooda and Axar Patel combined 68 runs for the sixth wicket, allowing India to score 162 runs. Apart from Kasun Rajitha, all Sri Lankan bowlers took one wicket, with spinners playing an important role.
Before the powerplay was finished, Sri Lanka lost two wickets, and by the conclusion of the 11th over, half of the squad had returned to the pavilion. The lower middle order made up of Chamika Karunaratne, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Dasun Shanka, saved the sinking ship.
To win, Sri Lanka needed 13 runs in the last over. Karunaratne was able to reduce the necessary runs to only five runs by hitting a six on the third delivery. Axar Patel, who bowled the final three deliveries, only allowed two runs to be scored, bringing the team home.
In the first game, each side dealt with its unique problems, which they would try to resolve in the next games. The main worry is the middle order’s inability to score runs for Sri Lanka. Additionally, the speed attack appeared inexperienced, and the spinners to the team’s rescue.
The same issues that the Indian squad has been grappling with in recent years are once again present. The administration is still attempting to present a middle-order batter as the finisher, despite the fact that the club needs a true finisher.
