Ind vs Hon Asia Cup | Match Preview
India defeated Pakistan in their opening game of the Asia Cup, getting off to a great start. The Rohit Sharma-led team’s next match is against Hong Kong on Wednesday at the Dubai International Stadium, and a win would guarantee a top-four spot.
Against Pakistan, both the bowlers and the batters were operating smoothly. As Hong Kong has just advanced to the final round, it should be more at ease against Hong Kong. Hong Kong, on the other hand, will arrive at the location with plenty of confidence after winning all three of their preliminary games. The Group B competition will become interesting if they manage to defeat India.
Is Rishabh Pant likely to start?
After being benched in the crucial game on Sunday, Rishabh Pant can start on Wednesday. Given how well the combination worked, the bowling department might not experience any change. The centre of attention will be KL Rahul, who lost a golden duck. He unnecessarily dragged Naseem Shah’s wider delivery inside so that he could leave without adding to the score. The star opener, though, was expected to maintain more composure.
Hong Kong’s great form in the Qualifiers
In the qualifying round, Kuwait, the UAE, and Singapore were all surpassed by Hong Kong. In the Asia Cup 2022 Qualifier, Singapore, Kuwait, and Hong Kong competed against each other. They defeated all three teams and edged Kuwait for first place. They participated in the most recent Asia Cup in 2018 and were placed in the same group as Pakistan and India. Amazingly, they will rejoin the same two teams in Group A for the upcoming competition.
The past encounter against India
India and Hong Kong have played two ODI matches against one another. India has triumphed in both of these games, while Hong Kong has failed to win even once. Shikhar Dhawan’s 127 had set things up in their previous Asia Cup 2018 match in the ODI format, but Nizakat Khan and Anshuman Rath’s opening stand of 174 in a chase of 286 saw India’s bowlers pull things back.
India reached 285 for 7 thanks to Shikhar Dhawan’s 14th ODI century, and Hong Kong’s bowlers overcame a strong start by allowing only 48 runs in the final ten overs. When they came out to bat, they carried that positive momentum with them, with the opening pair of Nizakat Khan and Anshuman Rath putting together the highest-ever ODI partnership for Hong Kong of 174 runs.
After being inserted, India was cruising thanks to a 116-run partnership between Ambati Rayudu (60) and Shikhar Dhawan (127). The latter reached a brilliant tonne, and India appeared poised to pass 300 at the time he was outside.
Nizakat Khan, who missed out on a well-deserved tonne, was eliminated by rookie pacer, Khaleel Ahmed. Along with spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who went through the middle order, he finished with three wickets. He also finished the game with three wickets. Shardul Thakur struggled, giving up 10.25 runs per over.
Asia Cup 2018: India defeated Hong Kong 259 for 8 (Nizakat 92, Rath 73, Chahal 3-46, Khaleel 3-48, Kuldeep 2-42) by 26 runs with 285 for 7 (Dhawan 127, Rayudu 60, Kinchit 3-39, Ehsan Khan 2-65).
This matchup will be exciting and Hong Kong will have to prove themselves
On the other hand, Yasim Murtaza and Nizakat Khan, the skipper of Hong Kong, played some noteworthy innings during the qualifiers. Babar Hayat, a consistent run-getter, has also scored a half-century against Kuwait. It won’t be easy to defeat the Indian bowling attack, though. They haven’t tested their bowling unit yet.
It will be extremely exciting to see how Hong Kong has prepared for India and how well they perform against them, India is the giants coming into this game and tournament as they have one of the best Asia Cup records of all time

The pitch at Dubai Cricket Stadium is not the best for big scores. Because of its small boundaries, which the batsman makes the most of, chasing appears to be a great choice on this wicket.
